Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where do I go to login to Datatrac Corporation's Hosted Services?

A: Open a browser and go to the following URL: http://hosted.dtrac.net. Read through the Statement of Member Conduct, scroll down and click on "I agree".  On the next page, click on "Secure Login" to open your session and login.

Q:  Is hosted.dtrac.net "secure" - is the connection and data encrypted?

A: Yes - the connection is a SSL (Secure Socket Layer) connection via SSH to our host, which means that all data passing back and forth over the Internet is encrypted and secure.

Q: I can connect to hosted.dtrac.net, but when I click on the "Secure Login" link I never get connected?

A: Make sure your network (office) firewall has port 22 open for outbound traffic.  This is the SSH port that the VT session connects through.  Check with your local network administrator to confirm or check this.

Q: What is "EZ-Clear"?

A:  EZ-Clear is a utility to clear browser cache and any past VT session clients previously configured on your PC.  If you are experience problems with your display or functions, Datatrac Support may have you run this utility.

Q: What Operating Systems are supported?

A: Windows 2000/XP/Vista

Q: Will Hosted Services work on a MAC (Macintosh)?

A: No.

Q: What are the required Operating System Security requirements?

A: Refer to the guide below, depending on your operating system:

  • Windows 2000/XP/Vista - Windows Default Security Group Settings:
    • Power User or higher -or-
  • Windows 2000/XP/Vista - Custom Security Settings Including:
    • The ability to install software
    • The ability to run Active-X Controls (IE)
    • The ability to run plugins (Netscape)
    • The ability to write to \Downloaded Program Files (IE)
    • The ability to write to \Temp
    • The ability to write to \My Documents
    • The ability to write to HKLM\Software\Seagull and HKCU\Software\Seagull in the Registry
    • The ability to modify HKCU\Software\Seagull key in the Registry

Q: What Browsers are supported?

A: Internet Explorer 6.0 and higher, Mozilla FireFox 2.0 and higher, Netscape 6.0 and higher.

Q:What are the required Browser Security Settings for Internet Explorer?

A: Medium Security Settings or Custom settings with Signed Active-X Controls and Active-X Controls Marked Safe for Scripting enabled.  

Q: Will Hosted Services work with AOL?

A: Datatrac Hosted Services will only work reliably with AOL versions 5.0 and higher.  Download and install the latest version of AOL (www.aol.com) and try Hosted Services again.

Q: How do I maximize my screen (make it "full screen")?

A: Right-click anywhere in the body of the screen. A menu will appear - highlight "Full Screen" and left-click. To go back to the original screen size: right-click, then highlight "Full Screen" again and left-click.

Q: How do I change the printer I print to (by default)?

A: Click on "File", then highlight and click on "Print Setup...". To change printers, first uncheck the box to the left of "Always use Default Windows printer on Startup".  Next, click on the "Page Setup / Printer Selection" button in the lower-left hand portion of the "Print Setup" screen. Now click on the "Printer" button in the lower-right hand portion of the "Page Setup" screen. A drop-down box will appear - click on the down arrow to choose a different printer, then click "OK". Click "OK" to close the "Page Setup" screen, then click on "Apply" and "OK" to close the "Print Setup" screen.

Q: How do I do a "screen print"?

A: Right-click anywhere in the screen, then highlight "Copy to Printer" and left-click.  The current screen will print to your default Windows printer (or whatever printer you have set up to print to in "Print Setup" as described above).  You can also screen print by clicking on "Edit", then highlighting "Copy to Printer" and left-clicking, -or- by holding down the <Alt><P> key combination at the same time.

Q: What is the "Copy to File" feature?

A:  "Copy to File" allows you to print the current screen to your local hard disk.  The file is named "ToFile" and is copied to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents.  Each time you "Copy to File", the "ToFile" is overwritten.  Right-click anywhere in the screen, then highlight "Copy to File" and left-click.  The "ToFile" can then be emailed or printed.

Q: What is the recommended screen resolution for hosted.dtrac.net?

A: 1024 by 768 pixels.
